Roberto Abellonio - Cantina Piccaluga

Origins:

In Ligurian dialect “Piccaluga” mean “pick the grapes”; it was 1856 when a Genovese doctor purchased lands in the hills of Alba between Treiso and Barbaresco, building a farmhouse at the top of the hills.
Here in the early 1900s, Carlo Abellonio first worked as a sharecropper and then as an owner, planting the first fields of Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. In 1994, the estate was handed over to Roberto Abellonio. Following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather he began pushing a major company transformation by increasing the vineyard surface area, upping production and broadening the range of grapes cultivated and wines made. Today his business is part of the Eco Cloud project, which includes businesses that foster responsible innovation and ways to be sustainable.

Territory:

The company covers a total surface area of 8 ha, of which six have vineyards planted and two have hazel groves and woods. The production facilities are located just outside Alba and overlook the city from the hill called Altavilla. A place both mystical and historical at the same time, this tiny town is home to Madonna degli Angeli, a little church and object of particular devotion, and trails rich in the history of Fenoglio, symbol of the Italian resistance movement.

People:

Roberto Abellonio, agronomist, directly manages the business together with his family, backed by the experience of the winemaking technician, Alessandro Bottallo.
