Cantina Pontepietra

Origins:

The agricultural enterprise Luigi Drocco, also called Cascina Pontepietra, has been synonymous with quality and variety since 1959.
Its work methods are rigorous and always oriented towards saving the environment and healthy wine by: not using herbicides and using very few pesticides, tilling the soil with grass seeds for cover cropping (which is meant to make the soil more fertile), organic fertilising in the vineyards, not using ingredients of animal origin in the wines and using a very small amount of sulphites. Its merit is having started to make the white wines of Langa when very few believed in them. Drocco produced Arneis and Chardonnay in the 1980s, which at the time still didn’t have a controlled designation of origin. Its pride is having been among the precursors of the Alba DOC, having put this certification in its broad assortment since the winery’s very foundation in 2010. Still today, the wine appears as a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, aged in wood for 12 months, on the labels of a handful of producers.

Territory:

Drocco’s 15 ha of vineyards form an amphitheatre, an ellipse on the boundary between the city of Alba and Diano d’Alba. Diano gives a must-see panorama of Langa. From the 18th century church, S. Giovanni Battista, you can admire a landscape of hills, plains and castles, from Monferrato to Roero up to the great Turin – a spectacle crowned by the Alpine arc of Piedmont, Aosta Valley and Lombardy.

People:

Luigi Drocco is the owner. His wife Silvana and son Fabrizio and Roberto manage the company. Roberto’s wife Elisa handles event and shows.

The hospitality is a feather in the family’s cap. Capable of hosting very large groups, the farmstead offers quality tastings paired with specialties of Langa in a casual and bucolic setting, among taste, conviviality and cheer.
