Cantina Ca’ du Luin
Origins:
The company Ca’ du Luin started in 2000, a year of passage not just symbolic for Carlo Castellengo, who took the reins of the family vineyards inherited by two generations.
It was then that he began the process of vinification. He makes three wines that make up a vertical tasting of structures – from the simplest and fruity one to the most structured and tannic, which fully embodies the variegated terroir of the Langhe. You start with Dolcetto d’Alba for the entire meal, and then go to a Nebbiolo d’Alba that has been aged for a year in large barrels, finishing with Barbaresco, obtained from the results of blending two geographical mentions worthy of note: Montersino and Meruzzano.
Territory:
The winery took the characteristic name of the surrounding vineyard in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio under the municipality of Alba, bordering on Treiso. As early as the Roman empire it was a vacation destination. In those days this small municipality was a cool refuge for the noble inhabitants of Alba Pompeia. Its ancient village stands out against the silhouette of five hills. To fully experience their charm, walking the tourist trails is recommended. You can ask for a map at the town hall offices and at the Bottega dei Grandi Vini.
People:
Carlo takes care of vineyard management with the help of his mother Anna and father Sergio.
Hospitality:
Ca’ du Luin’s production is very small and is mainly distributed in the bars and restaurants of Turin, Milan and the Alba area. This is why Carlo doesn’t organise tastings and guided tours, but just sells his bottles, mostly to private persons.
