Cantina Armando Piazzo

In the 1960s, Armando Piazzo started cultivating his land in Alba and Treiso.
He had an intuition that the wines of Langa would become popular, and with his wife Gemma decided to invest in more vineyards, specifically in Nebbiolo, considerably extending the range of wines produced. Perhaps he never dreamed that with the family’s work the company would have reached its current size.

Although the winery is family-run, the company sprawls over 70 ha, spread out between Novello, Mango, Neviglie, Guarene, Alba and Treiso. Many vineyards cultivated in these areas are given emblematic nicknames, which distinguish one vineyard from another. Among this company’s lands one of the most fascinating is “Mugiot”, a cru of Barbera which makes well-structured wines, delicate on the palate and ageable, but whose yield is fairly low. The Italian name in fact means “small heap”.

As rarely happens in wine companies, here a woman is at the helm: Marina Piazzo, Armando’s daughter. At her side is husband Franco Allario, agronomist. Stefano Giordano and the two sons Simone and Marco Allario are the winery’s oenologists.

The Piazzo family welcomes its visitors both during the week and on the weekend. Tentative visiting hours: 8 AM to 12 PM, 1 PM to 6:30 PM.
